Abstract
In order to determine the prevalence of arterial hypertension and the behavior of the variables associated with it in cab drivers in the urban area of Medellín, a group of 369 drivers, selected by random sampling from the 14 cab fleets in the urban area of Medellín, was studied.
The prevalence of arterial hypertension was found to be 37.94 per 100. The average systolic pressure was 131.1 mm. Hg. and the diastolic 90 mm. Hg. A statistically significant association was found between arterial hypertension and the following variables: family history, obesity, marital status, economic situation, daily work time and smoking.
