TUBERCULOSIS INFANTIL, EPIDEMIOLOGIA Y CRITERIOS DIAGNOSTICOS

Abstract


La tuberculosis se halla en todo el mundo y afecta no sólo al hombre sino a algunas especies de animales(23).
Descrita desde Hipócrates en el año 1.500 A.C., ha sido la causa de muerte de millones de personas en todo el. mundo. Inicialmente su origen fue un enigma hasta 1882 cuando Robert Koch aportó la prueba de que la tuberculosis era causada por gérmenes y así se pudieron dar cuenta de su etiología infecciosa y no hereditaria (17,49).
A pesar de este descubrimiento, la infección se ha continuado propagando a través de los continentes y a pesar de ser una enfermedad prevenible, su control ha sido muy limitado(17).
