EVALUACION DE LA COBERTURA DE VACUNACION BCG EN LA POBLACION URBANA MENOR DE 15 AÑOS DE LA CIUDAD DE MEDELLIN (1)
Abstract
Despite the high priority that should be given to immunization against tuberculosis at the national level, BCG programs are far from reaching the desired level of coverage. Beginning in 1972, the Tuberculosis Control Program was integrated into the General Health Services of the Department of Antioquia, with this measure it was thought that prevention and control activities would improve (16). If the role played by BCG vaccination in children under 15 years of age is taken into account, there is a need to evaluate this program both technically and operationally, in order to determine the coverage achieved and, due to the diameter of the scar, the application technique and/or quality of the biological product (7).
In the Department of Antioquia, no study has been carried out in this regard; only the study carried out in Pereira and in the Department of Risaralda, which is a Pilot Department of the Tuberculosis Control Program, was known, where it was obtained that the coverage achieved in the urban population of Pereira is 72.6% and in the urban population of the municipalities 67.7% (1).
