Abstract

Mortality is a phenomenon that is closely related to socioeconomic level, and it is generally accepted that mortality rates in the lower classes are higher than in the upper classes.(1)(2)
This does not mean that there are no specific causes that deviate from this pattern. Such is the case of cardiovascular diseases, which are more important as a cause of death in the higher income groups.(1)
One of the aspects that has been most studied is mortality in specific groups of the population and specifically in the group of medical professionals. For this reason, the Medical Association of Antioquia (AMDA), an entity that groups more than 800% of the professionals in the Department, has wanted to study the mortality of its affiliates, taking advantage of the fact that it has sufficient information to do so.
This first attempt makes it possible to discover the behavior of mortality in AMDA affiliates according to some variables or indicators, such as specialty, cause of death, life expectancy, etc. Given the recent existence of the AMDA (founded in 1961), the possibilities of inference are limited and its conclusions will refer to the study group.
