ACCIDENTES DE TRANSITO, MUNICIPIO DE MEDELLIN Y VALLE DE ABURRA 1975-1976
Abstract
Although it is accepted by all the importance that traffic accidents have for the life of society in its social, economic, health, etc. aspects, we wanted to highlight some data to visualize the problem, especially in Colombia and in Medellin in particular.
The WHO has carried out studies in which the magnitude of the problem is presented (1), its main causes detected through epidemiological studies (2) and the great differences that exist in terms of causes, risks, etc., between the so-called developed and underdeveloped countries, as well as its volume in relation to the total population (3).
In Colombia there is ample information at the level of national records of the DANE (4) of the National Morbidity Survey (5) and of works carried out by the Ministry of Public Health (6) in which the data obtained worldwide are corroborated. Unfortunately, these data are not very useful for application in specific city programs, for example, since they are accumulated from very different situations.
