ESTUDIO DESCRIPTIVO SOBRE LITIASIS RENAL EN AFILIADOS AL INSTITUTO COLOMBIANO DE LOS SEGUROS SOCIALES. Medellín 1977
Abstract
Renal lithiasis is a pathology whose central characteristic is the formation of calculi of very varied location, shape, size and composition.
Two main causes have been indicated in the appearance of calculi: those capable of increasing the concentration of the different crystalloids that form them, and on the other hand, physico-chemical characteristics that modify the probability of their precipitation (1).
Different investigations on this pathology have contributed to the knowledge of epidemiological aspects; thus, the age range in which lithiasis is more frequent, oscillates between the second and sixth decade (8, 10), presenting a higher frequency in the male sex (2). Regarding the occupation, it has been found (9) a relation of renal lithiasis with people who perform sedentary jobs and those activities in which sweating is excessive, producing a greater insensible loss of liquids; regarding the time of the year, the appearance of calculi is more frequent in the summer months (12).
