The data and results to be presented are the result of research conducted by the Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública and the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais with the support of the Pan American Health Organization. The data are largely unpublished and were obtained from a survey on health facilities conducted every year by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
