ALIMENTACION DEL DEPORTISTA
ANTECEDENTES HISTORICOS
Abstract
We do not have bibliography that allows us to go back to the antiquity to investigate the antecedents of the Sport dietetics, but we can deduce that since the Sport was born the diet of the Athletes was object of special cares because the Feeding was one of the great preoccupations of the Man.
Thus, in 884 B.C., King Elida, confused to see the Peloponnesus affected by the plague, asked the Delphic Pythia for help and she informed him that everything would be solved if the Games were reestablished in Olympia, created 6 centuries before, from then until the year 708 B.C., the first athletes carried out the first sports competitions. the first athletes were fed a training diet that was almost entirely vegetable and in which cereals, cookies, cheeses, dried figs, honey and raw fruit predominated, and some supplemented their food with cooked hari- na, unleavened bread and meat from oxen, bulls, rams or antelopes.
King Lycurgus restored in Sparta in the 7th century B.C. the prohibition for athletes to consume wine and placed a priest at the entrance of the stadium who smelled the athletes to make sure they obeyed the order.
Pythagoras, Hippocrates and Epicureus laid the foundations of rational nutrition and the athletes of the time, better or worse, followed their guidelines.
