METODO SENCILLO PARA DISEÑAR ESTRUCTURAS DE PROTECCION CONTRA LOS RAYOS X
Abstract
Encouraged by the importance that is being given to the subject in the international courses of Hospital Architecture carried out by the National School of Public Health of the University of Antioquia, we have proposed to present simple but sufficiently complete information about the design of protection barriers against ionizing radiation generated by an X-Ray machine.
As may be recalled, X-rays are produced as a result of the shock suffered by electrons accelerated by very high voltages when colliding against a metallic anode. The higher the accelerating voltage, the higher the frequency of the radiation and the greater the penetration of the rays into matter. This interaction with matter can in itself constitute a method of slowing down the passage of ionizing radiation, forming what is called a shield.
