A review on puerperal infection is presented. It includes general, intrapartum and operative risk factors, bacterial etiology, physiopathology, clinical forms and their differential diagnosis. It also considers the various antibiotics available. Attention is called to the fact that several of the recently proposed regimes are considerably costlier, but not more effective, than the traditional ones.
