The internal stresses generated in the square box couplings of cast iron for sugar cane mills are studied. Also, mathematical expressions are obtained to calculate the equivalent stresses, and the influence of parameters such as: external diameter of the square box coupling, dimensions of the square hole, speed of rotation and power. For obtaining these expressions the Finite Elements Method was used (MEF), with the software COSMOS/M version 2.6. Finally, a standardization of the square box couplings was done with the purpose of reducing their variety.
