El estudio sobre el español de América no cuenta desde el año pasado con uno de sus más ilustres investigadores, José Joaquín Montes Giraldo, quien constituye sin duda un obligado punto de referencia para todo aquel que realice estudios de dia-lectología y variación lingüística, especialmente en nuestro país. Es difícil encontrar algún aspecto o fenómeno del habla colombiana que no haya sido analizado, o por lo menos señalado o registrado, en alguno de sus innumerables trabajos.
