¡Universalizar la secundaria!

Abstract

¡Universalizar la educación secundaria... y hacerlo ya! Ese es el principal reto que nos plantea el último Informe del Estado de la Nación. A estas alturas del siglo XXI debiera darnos vergüenza estar planteándonos en Costa Rica una meta mínima que debió estar cumplida hace al menos veinte años... pero lo cierto es que, en este campo, vamos como el cangrejo: hoy, la escolaridad promedio de la población nacida en 1982 es más baja que la de quienes nacieron en 1959. La escolaridad promedio de la población costarricense de 18 a 64 años es de apenas 8.4 años... es decir, ni tercer año de secundaria completo. ¡Y eso es en promedio!
