Abstract

San Agustín de Hipona, al preguntarse como filósofo qué es el tiempo, responde con la luminosa concisión de su estilo: “El tiempo es el enlace de tres presencias: la siempre presente memoria del pasado; el presente de nuestra actual e instantánea experiencia, y el futuro que es expectativa y a la vez presencia del porvenir.

 Invitado a disertar sobre el pasado, el presente y el futuro de la universidad colombiana con motivo del cuadragésimo aniversario del Departamento de Microbiología y Parasitología de la Facultad de Medicina de la bicentenaria Universidad de Antioquia, mi limitaré a destacar algunos hechos de la “presente  memoria del pasado” universitario colombiano, y enlazarlo con el presente y fugaz “instante” de la universidad en el mundo y en Colombia, objeto inmediato de la responsable y actual actividad de nuestras inteligencias. Concluiré con algunas reflexiones educativas y pedagógicas, seguidas de una intromisión en el tema legislativo colombiano.
