En la aurora de 2003, pregonado desde hace un lustro por la Universidad de Antioquia como el año de su Bicentenario, es conveniente aportar una serie de documentos y reflexiones que demuestran que el Alma Mater surgió realmente en la época de la Independencia y no en las postrimerías del período colonial, a donde se le quiere remontar.
