Abstract

Las instituciones postsecundarias están atravesando por una transición mayor que cambiará, fundamentalmente, su forma de organización y función. Este cambio es impulsado por las fuerzas combinadas de la demografía, la globalización, la reestructuración económica y la tecnología de la información, que conducirán, a lo largo de la próxima década, a la adopción de nuevas concepciones del mercado de la educación, de nuevas estructuras organizacionales, y de la forma y contenido de la enseñanza. El propósito de este artículo es describir estas fuerzas y especular sobre sus efectos sobre la educación superior en Estados Unidos y en otras sociedades industriales consolidadas.
