During the latest decades, the communication of science has had a special impulse in Brazil. This article provides a brief overview of the advances in this field. It approaches museums and interactive science centers in Brazil as the focus of our discussions. It analyzes four models of public understanding of science; also, four examples of initiatives that recognize the role of different audiences are presented. The goal is to call the attention on the need of interactive science museums as places intended to explore science issues, technology and citizenship education, as opposed to the still quite spread model of scientific knowledge windows supposedly well established and static.
