Viajando al pasado a través de los fósiles marinos de Córdoba

Se presentan a modo divulgativo los resultados de una prospección paleontológica llevada a cabo en la localidad de Loma Azul, municipio de Planeta Rica, departamento de Córdoba. Esta iniciativa se concretó fundamentalmente mediante salidas de campo durante el año 2011, tras establecerse el reconocimiento de una asociación arrecifal con una importante diversidad de fósiles, destacándose los hallazgos de varios tipos de tiburones y un sinnúmero de moluscos. Se buscó desarrollar esta experiencia en estrecho contacto con la comunidad local para sensibilizar acerca del valor científico-cultural intrínseco de los fósiles preservados en su vereda. Con esta contribución se pretende llamar la atención sobre la importancia del patrimonio fosilífero del Caribe colombiano, que aún se encuentra en un estado de conocimiento incipiente, sobre todo en lo relativo a sus abundantes faunas marinas del Cenozoico.
