Artificial Intelligence Policy

Considering the use of artificial intelligence tools in academic and scientific literature, the Boletín de Antropología contemplates the following:

Policies for authors

Generative artificial intelligence tools cannot be considered authors or co-authors of a manuscript.

Any use of artificial intelligence tools, both in research and in the writing of the manuscript, must be declared in the introduction to the document. The name and version of the artificial intelligence tool used must be specified, indicating in detail how it was used.

Considering the use of artificial intelligence tools that offer suggestions to improve the writing of the manuscript (grammar, structure, spelling and typographical correction, and the like), the type of tool used must be stated in the document.

Regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence (content production: images, text, data analysis, references, and others), the tool and its developer must be cited, in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style 18th Edition:

Text generated by ChatGPT, OpenAI, June 18, 2025, https://chat.openai.com/chat

Please note that as an author, you must:

  • Verify the terms of the licenses for the use of AI tools, which must be consistent with the editorial policies of the Anthropology Bulletin.
  • Verify the percentage of similarity, the possibility of falsification, and the bias of the artificial tool.
  • Verify the validity, relevance, and accuracy of AI-generated content.

Policies for Editors

As stipulated in the Boletín de Antropología's evaluation policy, the review process for all manuscripts will be carried out by the editorial team and the double-blind peer review system. In this regard, the use of artificial intelligence tools is not permitted in the pre-diagnosis and blind peer review phases.

Although the Boletín de Antropología has a style editor on its editorial team, authors will be informed if an AI assistance tool (grammar, structure, spelling and typographical correction, and the like) was used in the style correction phase of the manuscript.

Policies for Reviewers

Reviewers are encouraged to indicate whether they identified any unstated use of AI in the reviewed manuscript.

Under no circumstances may reviewers upload the manuscript to any artificial intelligence tool.
