About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Since its creation in 1953, the Boletín de Antropología of the University of Antioquia has become a space for the publication and academic debate of Colombian Anthropology. It is an important Latin American reference for anthropology in general and its various branches in particular. Its focus is on the social sciences, specifically in the subdisciplines: anthropology, archaeology, ethnography, ethnology, anthropological linguistics, biological and forensic anthropology, and ethnohistory. These areas and subdisciplines are recognized by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The Boletín de Antropología (BDA) prioritizes unpublished articles and considers as such those that have not been published in any other format, either written or electronic. It also considers as publications even preliminary versions of writings that are shared on websites for open discussion. Any rewriting or update of a previously published text must be reported to the Editorial Board and include a footnote indicating the novelty of the version.

The Boletín de Antropología accepts ORIGINAL contributions, which include articles presenting results from scientific research projects, reflection articles, review articles, short research articles, case reports, and topic reviews. All of these articles undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review by academic experts, mostly external to the University of Antioquia. Translations, bibliographic reviews, letters to the editor, and other contributions (audiovisual essays, photographic essays, experimental ethnographies, and transcriptions) are also welcomed.

All of the above contributions and their rigorous evaluation ensure to both authors and readers of the two annual issues (January-June and July-December) that our publication adheres to the scientific rigor required by anthropological science. The primary language of the publication is Spanish, but contributions written in other widely spoken languages in the Americas (English and Portuguese) are also accepted and published.

This journal provides immediate free access to its content under the open access principle: making research results available to the public supports greater global knowledge exchange. It also aims to foster continuous support for the exchange of global knowledge. Furthermore, all content and procedures in the Boletín de Antropología follow strict ethical guidelines that involve the editorial board, authors, and reviewers and clearly express the criteria that authors must follow when submitting articles for review.

The Boletín de Antropología of the Universidad de Antioquia is aimed at a public of students, researchers, and professionals interested in the social and human sciences, especially in the field of anthropology. Its content seeks to generate an interdisciplinary and academic dialogue.
