In this article, the relationship between the State and the heritage for the building of a national identity is analyzed, as well as the process through which the citizens have adopted this identity as their own. It explains the transformation of the “Desfile de silleteros” from being considered as a step to build national identity to a cultural manifest permeated by trade, advertising and sponsors. Finally, “the silleta” is analyzed under a novel perspective; as a creation by “Selenos” and a registered trademark of this community.
