Este libro, cuya primera edición en español corresponde al año 2014, fue escrito por Stephen Corry, director de la organización no gubernamental Survival International. Es producto de las experiencias y preocupaciones que movilizan a la organización y responde a su interés de incidir a favor de la diversidad étnica de manera global. Tratando un amplio abanico de problemas y situaciones concernientes a las relaciones de la sociedad industrial avanzada —es decir, Occidente— con los demás grupos humanos, el autor pretende denunciar la situación de dominación, violencia y hasta exterminio de estos grupos, así como señalar, de manera reiterativa a partir de cada nuevo caso descrito, la necesidad de repensar las formas de relacionarnos y negociar respecto a intereses particulares.
