La sección central de este artículo es una síntesis de los datos arqueológicos que se conocen sobre la región colombiana de la Amazonia y los Llanos Orientales. En la parte introductoria se resumen las principales tendencias en la investigación y en la interpretación del desarrollo cultural en la hoya amazónica. Al fmal se presenta un balance de las necesidades y perspectivas de investigación en la Amazonia colombiana .
