Abstract

The text analyzes how Alonso de Ercilla (1569-1589), in his epic poem
La Araucana, enhances the honor of their indigenous players: Caupolicán and Glaura, ignoring the central role of blacks in the conquest of Chile, only see in them creatures moved by the vilest instincts.
