Es conveniente un reenfoque de la salud pública

El trabajo de los académicos de la salud pública ha centrado la atención en las últimas décadas hacia asuntos relacionados con propuestas legislativas que oscilan desde la formulación de documentos de políticas públicas hasta la legislación sobre los modelos de aseguramiento a los sistemas de prestación de servicios. La mayoría de las veces la academia reacciona de forma contestataria ante iniciativas de la dirigencia política que busca poner a tono lo que para ellos es un importante sector de la economía y en donde se están jugando grandes intereses empresariales. Los espacios de discusión pública del pensamiento en salud pública han sido relegados a asuntos formales de tipo regulatorio, y generalmente tratando de reparar con medidas parciales asuntos a los cuales no se les ha permitido un debate abierto y participativo. Aunque puede ser comprensible por las coyunturas políticas este acento en las discusiones, hay que señalar que se ha aplazado el abordaje de otros asuntos de mayor alcance doctrinario y político.
