PRACTICAS CULTURALES RELATIVAS A LA REPRODUCCION HUMANA EN COLOMBIA
Abstract
The empirical practices surrounding the reproductive process, pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium, vary according to the regions, mainly taking into account their ethnic origin. Thus, in Colombia, differences can be found in the Pacific Coast with respect to the Caribbean Coast, the mountainous coffee region, the highlands and the south of the country, in addition to what is known as the Llano or Amazon region.
These practices also vary according to the degree of integration of the people, the social organization in force, especially the degree of education, the level of income, etc. Despite this, many empirical practices manage to permeate these social strata, even being found in personnel working in health with specific training for this purpose.
The mother assumes the role of informing her soon-to-be-married daughter about the intimate relationships of the spouses; the father does not do so, not even with the son, because it is assumed that the unmarried man may be knowledgeable about it, given the sexual permissiveness that the culture grants him.
There is reluctance to deal with the subject of family planning, although mothers are more willing to advise their daughters to have a more limited offspring than their own. Divine will appears as an impediment to this counseling.
