DIFERENCIAS ENTRE ALGUNAS MEDIDAS ANTROPOMETRICAS EN RECIEN NACIDOS A TERMINO DE DIFERENTE CLASE SOCIAL
Hospital Universitario San Vicente de Paúl. Junio/Agosto 1977.
Abstract
For more than ten years, one of the authors of this work (H.A.G.), as a professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Antioquia, has been using the socio-bio-statistical research scheme that we present today as one of the routine student works of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Antioquia. During all these years the results of the student research have always been consistent, in the sense of finding statistically significant differences for the three variables analyzed: weight, height and head circumference of live newborns of the two social classes analyzed: Hospital Pensionado, where upper middle and upper middle class mothers from the city of Medellín and surrounding areas receive paid services, and the General Obstetrics Wards of the same Hospital where mothers from the same region but from the lower economic strata (neither can pay for their hospitalization, nor are they affiliates or beneficiaries of the Colombian Institute of Social Security) go. The one published today has been elaborated with the cooperation of physicians Rafael Manotas and Jairo Echeverri and the obstetric nursing team of the Neonatology and Pensionado Services of the Hospital Universitario San Vicente de Paúl.
