French influence on medicine in Antioquia, Colombia

French influence on the development of medicine in Antioquia, Colombia, is briefly described. The following aspects are included: hospital architecture; medical personnel selection systems; French clinical practice and its rooting in Antioquia; the contribution of some French practitioners who worked in Antioquia and that of some native doctors who trained in Paris; and the importance of medical photography in France and its introduction to Medellín, Antioquia, in 1894. Lastly, some of the causes for the decline of the French influence are also considered.
