Abstract

This article discusses several aspects of painful syndromes that are frequent in AIDS patients. It describes the impact of pain in the quality of life and in the daily experiences of these persons as well. The medical and palliative cares are explained and some considerations on autonomous decisions at the end of life are analysed. Emphasis is made on the fact that AIDS patients suffer total pain; therefore they require total therapy so that pain and suffering are reduced to a minimum and the right not to suffer is respected.
