Abstract

Singultus or hiccups is a breathing thing disorder that, in contrast with nausea, vomiting or cough, does not confer any protection. There exist many different causes of hiccups as well as varied treatments. Chronic hiccups is seldom reported but it may worsen or complicate other diseases. We report the case of a 13 year-old girl with prolonged hiccups due to uremia. Although diverse pharmacologic treatments were used, only hemodialysis controlled the hiccups.
