Purpose: To describe the effects of mandatory confinement on mental health and lifestyles in students at a private university in the city of Cali, Colombia. Methods: 586 students from the PSY-COVID-19 Colombia study participated. Sociodemographic variables, mental health indicators, and lifestyle changes were analyzed, and logistic regressions were performed. Results: Students reported high negative mental health indicators and low positive indicators. In terms of lifestyles, eating and leisure habits improved, while physical activity and sleep habits worsened. Relationships were found between mental health and lifestyle changes. Conclusions: The results point out lessons learned and challenges for the development of health promotion and well-being strategies for higher education institutions to face future crisis situations similar to the one experienced during the pandemic in this population.
