Competences for sustainability and competences in education for higher education

Unsustainable patterns of production and consumption have ecological implications that put in danger the Sustainability of life on the planet as we know it and the options for current and future generations to a dignified life. Given this planetary emergency situation, all students need to be trained in competencies for Sustainability if you need to have professionals, at all levels, who know how to deal with the problems of unsustainability that is found in the exercise of their professions or to professionals who do not contribute to the unsustainability.
This article is a review of the main contributions on the competencies that must be purchased by students about Sustainability and that training must be future teachers to be able to form turn to the students in these competencies. And this in order to overcome the obstacles that are preventing the involvement of citizenship and, in particular, educators in building a Sustainable future. Already some time ago that they begin to see changes in the curricula of higher education, there is some progress on training in and for Sustainability and this is happening in many universities in the world and also international organizations have brought reflection of experts in competencies for Sustainability and competencies in education for Sustainability.
