Abstract. Within the process of the formalization of anthropology, it is imperative to resolve the challenges that epistemological dualism and the modernist paradigm in which it is inscribed impose. Nevertheless, it is not possible to do this ignoring the ontological implications of this formalization; it is precisely this dimension that shows us the impossibility of separating the mind from culture. The article proposes guides for the construction of an alternative theoretical base that recognizes the role of the image in the evolution of symbolic systems.
