¿Tradición versus modernidad? A propósito de la hacienda en las llanuras del Caribe colombiano

Este artículo pretende cuestionar el enfoque según el cual las realidades sociales en el medio rural estarían organizadas deacuerdo con la dicotomía moderno/tradicional que opone realidades distintas y homogéneas en sí mismas. A partir de la comparación entre dos haciendas de la costa Caribe colombiana, se muestra que la haciendo no corresponde, necesariamente, a un tipo tradicional de explotación, y que lo tradicional y lo moderno coexisten y se imbrican en las realidades sociales y en el pensamiento. Se enfatiza, además, el papel de las relaciones simbólicas y conceptuales sobre los procesos sociales al indicar la incidencia que sobre los casos estudiados ejercen los imaginarios construidos sobre la modernidad.
