“Esta es tu noche” (“This is your night”) (2004) contextualizes the events in the Santa Fe neighborhood of Bogotá (red-light district of the city) from the perspective of the transgender sex trade. The neighborhood portrays the simulation and double standards of local society. We see this in the dilemma the protagonist faces, whose sexuality and ethics are conflicted between repressed desire and an ordered path. While this article examines the representation of transgender characters in recent Colombian literature, it also explores the literary image of an iconic area of Bogota.
