In this review the author discusses some aspects of non-pharmacologic therapies for relief of pain and suffering; both physical and psychological approaches are included; the former include heat and cold applicatio", exercises, neurostimulation and acupuncture; the latter are education, biofeedback, relaxation, musictherapy, hypnosis, thought sustitution, images and group and family therapy. Aiso discussed are spiritual assistance and humanized touch. The goal of these approaches is to obtain proximity with the suffering human being.
