Abstract

This short essay collects the thoughts of the author stimulated by some preliminary readings on the sujet of environmental ethics. The concept of life on earth is proposed as the fundamental basis for an ethics of the inviromental. Egotism as an ontogenetc principle for the construction of the individuality of the living being: and cooperation, as a necessary organizing axis, are recognized in this context and it is proposed that a rule of thumb to manage the very complex relatinships with the environment could lay on the capacity of the human being to increase cooperation and reduce his egotism.
