El gas natural: ¿nuevo vector energético?

La historia de la energía se ha caracterizado por la irrupción cíclica de paradigmas energéticos que inducen transformaciones con grandes impactos económicos y sociales. El advenimiento de un paradigma energético es resultado de la conjunción de varios factores que operan simultáneamente y se retroalimentan entre sí: disponibilidad de un recurso energético, innovaciones tecnológicas en los sistemas de conversión energética y exigencias del contexto económico, social y más recientemente, el factor ambiental.
En este artículo a la luz de los factores anteriores se examina por qué el gas natural se está constituyendo en un nuevo vector energético en la economía y por qué se perfila como el componente fundamental de la matriz energética mundial en las próximas décadas.
