En este artículo se presenta un análisis del diseño asistido por computadoras (Computer-Aided Design, CAD) que incluye los beneficios del empleo de la computación en el diseño y los modelos del proceso de diseño para sistemas CAD. Luego se analiza la conveniencia de introducir las técnicas de inteligencia artificial al desarrollar un sistema CAD y se relacionan métodos de solución de problemas de la lA aplicables en el desarrollo de sistemas CAD basados en el conocimiento.
