FORMULAIC EXPRESSIONS IN THE SPANISH SPOKEN IN THE CITY OF MEDELLIN

This paper analyses the meaning of formulaic expressions of frequent use in the Spanish spoken in the city of Medellin and its metropolitan area. In the first part reference is made to the background and theoretical aspects characteristics of these expressions; then, the methodology used for the analysis is described bearing in mind the double distinction of utterance modality and enunciation modality. Finally, in the conclusions of this study, emphasis is given to the meanings that can be clarified in these formulaic expressions, on the basis of epistemic, deontic and subjective modality.
