In this article we analyze the narrative modalities and the deictic elements in the story “¡Diles que no me maten!” from the author Juan Rulfo. On one side, the narrative modalities found in the text were a) third person that displays the equiscient narrator, b) monologue through the character of Juvencio Nava and c) recurrent dialogue. On the other side, pronominal and lexical deixis were present in the story because the author used cataphora in order to create expectation in the reader and anaphora in order to avoid repetitions and confusion about the referents of these deictic elements.
