Un  melodrama de la psicología

Resumen

En este artículo discuto críticamente un debate que considero como melodramático por excesivo y científicamente estéril, a saber, cuál es el objeto de estudio propio de la psicología científica. En un lado de este debate se encuentran el conductismo skinneriano y kantoriano, en los cuales se postula que la conducta e interconducta, respectivamente, son los objetos propios de estudio de la psicología, manifestando una obsesión por separarla ontológica y epistemológicamente del resto de la ciencia, así como de la psicología mentalista, falsamente acusada de dualista. En el otro lado se encuentra el mentalismo, con una obsesión igualmente separatista, sobre todo respecto a la biología. Este melodrama, que si la conducta, que si la mente, está plagado de manoteos teatrales que en algunos casos buscan forzar agendas de investigación psicológica motivadas en buena parte por intereses y gustos personales, violando en algunos casos la libertad académica intelectual. Arguyo que este melodrama solo entorpece el progreso en la psicología y que, en esos casos, amenaza la libertad intelectual, adquiriendo tintes normativos en manos de personas con poder político y económico. Mi sugerencia es la moderación en este debate, complementada por una mayor cultura general filosófica y más respeto a la libertad académica intelectual.
