Physical Activity and Mood Disorders in University Students

In Colombia, the prevalence of anxiety and depression in young people are 19.7% and 52.9%, respectively, which converges with the results of the research The effect of exercise in the cognitive performance of college students, which allowed the researchers to realize that in a sample of 143 university students who prac- ticed physical activity, 27.26% and 56.62% had depression and anxiety in mild to severe levels, respectively. The aim of this work is to considerate a review of scientific literature related to mood disorders and physical activity in university students. It is concluded that it has been proposed that physical activity sti- mulate the increase of mental health, but the existence of other factors that significantly influence this phenomenon should be considered.
