Participación social en salud: un reto para la promoción del salud

La participación social es un proceso fundamental en al implementación de proyectos y la implementación de proyectos y experiencias de promoción de la salud (PS). Las comunidades transforman sus condiciones de vida cuando adquieren a través de los procesos participativos la capacidad de definir sus problemas, necesidades y soluciones a ellos. La perspectiva de género es una nueva forma de concebir las relaciones hombre – mujer en la sociedad. La participación de la mujer en programas de salud ha estado íntimamente ligada a la forma en que se concibe generalmente el papel de la mujer como cuidadora de la salud en la familia y de los grupos especiales, de ahí la importancia de dar una nueva visión del papel de la mujer en PS. En este artículo se llama la atención sobre la importancia y el potencial que tiene la participación con el enfoque de género para promover la salud y para disminuir las inequidades y desigualdades en salud. Se ilustra con un caso de experiencia participativa colombiana en la cual la mujer fue la protagonista principal del mejoramiento de la salud y condiciones sociales de la comunidad.
