Resumen

Las quemaduras inducen grandes cambios en el metabolismo, en el sistema endocrino e inmune. Las demandas energéticas y proteicas aumentan y hay mayor tendencia a la infección y la desnutrición. Adicionalmente hay deterioro de la motilidad intestinal e imbalance hormonal que puede también inducir deficiencias nutricionales. Sin embargo, el tratamiento puede modificar la respuesta metabólica, y es así como estudios recientes han mostrado que un tratamiento agresivo temprano en niños con quemaduras mayores del 40% de la superficie corSoporte nutricional en el niño quemado poral, si bien no disminuye el gasto energético, si atenúa marcadamente el catabolismo proteico comparado con un inicio tardío en el manejo (1)...
