Abstract

Concepts such as trance, ecstasy, and alternate states of consciousness are recurrently
used in shamanism studies without analyzing the implications of these concepts on the studies. From the ethnographic presentation of two shamanic ceremonies the utility and the implications of such concepts will be evaluated in anthropological studies about shamanism in low land Amerindian societies
