Abstract

Objective: to make a narrative revision to the construction of the concept of quality of life, its history and
evolution, going through different approaches and paradigms that mold it according to the cultural meanings of the moment. Materials and methods: a bibliographical revision was made, exposed in narrative form, to some authors who approach the concept of quality of life from different perspectives.
Results: the concept of quality of life has developed from being an abstract form of the well-being and happiness to be considered in an operative manner as the standard of life and conditions of life according to different disciplines and areas of knowledge: philosophical and ethical as well as economic, social and cultural.
Conclusions: the construction of cultural meanings and social representations of an individual begins from a mental process formed by the context in which he lives and develops that gives sense to his life and causes it to have quality.
