Colombia is presented. Some circumstances that lead it to become a scientific institution are emphasized, namely:
-The foundation of the Medical School at the University of Antioquia.
-Administrative reorganization of the Hospital.
-Introduction of written medical records.
-Construction of the new Hospital buildings in its present location.
-Transformation of the power structure’s in the Hospital.
-Advances in medical knowledge.
