El uso de la fotografía con fines estrictamente médicos se inició en Medellín el 20 de julio de 1894 cuando el Doctor Vespasiano Peláez presentó en la sesión solemne de la Academia de Medicina un informe "sobre un tumor operado por él, observación que acompañó con pruebas fotográficas".
