Preservar a Diversidade Linguística e Cultural na e através da Tradução: Da Teoria à Prática

O artigo, por um lado, oferece reflexões teóricas sobre o fenômeno da tradução em uma perspectiva pós-colonial, principalmente no contexto anglófono e, em particular, no caso da Índia. Por outro lado, busca construir laços concretos entre a teoria e a prática. No artigo se discutem sérios questionamentos levantados pelos estudos de tradução pós-coloniais, tais como os conceitos de tradução como um meio de colonização, como um instrumento para manter a desigualdade cultural, inclusive depois do colapso do Império Britânico, e como um possível, e desejável, meio de descolonização (Robinson, 1997). No artigo, apresenta-se que embora para transmitir diversidades linguísticas quando se traduzem textos do inglês indiano ao italiano primam os métodos radicais defendidos pelos eruditos pós-coloniais (Niranjana, 1992; Spivak, 1992) - o que está claramente ligado ao conceito de "exotização" de Venuti (1995) -, não são a única solução, e a "hibridação" (Wolf, 2000; Tymoczko, 2000) representa a opção viável. As diferentes estratégias de tradução que se podem utilizar para produzir um texto "híbrido" são mostradas nos diferentes estudos sobre traduções de obras literárias do inglês indiano ao italiano, realizados pelo autor desta pesquisa (Narayan, 1997; Narayan, 1998; Chandra, 1999; Dhondy, 2003). O artigo propõe este método como decisivo para salvaguardar a língua, a cultura e a identidade no processo de tradução, bem como propõe que a tradução seja um meio para transportar as diferenças linguísticas e culturais ao mundo europeu.
